Meerut Metro Launched as India's Fastest at 120 Kmph, Sharing Tracks With Namo Bharat in a Country-First Model
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Meerut Metro on February 22, 2026, making it India's fastest metro system with an operating speed of 120 kmph, surpassing the Delhi Airport Express Line's previous record of 110 kmph. The 21-km, 12-station line runs between Meerut South and Modipuram, covering the full stretch in about 30 minutes. Meerut Metro is the first metro service in India to share tracks and infrastructure with a regional rapid transit system, running alongside Namo Bharat trains on the same corridor.
