BMRCL Gets Nod for New Trains on Namma Metro Green and Purple Lines to Ease Overcrowding, 2026
The Railway Board approved new trains for Namma Metro's Green and Purple lines, BMRCL confirmed in April 2026, clearing the way for enhanced peak-hour services. New six-coach trains built by CRRC Nanjing Puzhen and Titagarh Rail Systems will join the Green Line fleet. Once the new trains enter service, BMRCL plans to move existing Green Line trainsets to the Purple Line, which consistently records the highest ridership of Namma Metro's three lines, reducing waiting times on the busy Challaghatta-Whitefield corridor. A prototype six-coach trainset arrived in Bengaluru in January 2025 and has been undergoing trial runs, with each new train requiring 37 statutory safety clearances before entering commercial service.
