Bengaluru Metro, known locally as Namma Metro ("Our Metro" in Kannada), is the rapid transit system of India's technology capital, operated by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) since commercial service began in October 2011. Namma Metro now runs 83 Bengaluru Metro stations across 3 colour-coded lines, in 6-coach trains, daily from around 5:00 AM to 11:00 PM.
The Purple Line (Challaghatta–Whitefield, 37 stations, 43.49 km) and Green Line (Madavara–Silk Institute, 32 stations, 33.46 km) form Namma Metro's original cross-shaped network, meeting at the network's main interchange, Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Station, Majestic, next to the KSR Bengaluru City Railway Station. The newer Yellow Line (19.15 km, 16 stations) opened in August 2025, running from Rashtreeya Vidyalaya Road — its interchange with the Green Line — south to Bommasandra, giving Bengaluru's Electronic City IT corridor and BTM Layout its first metro connection. Together the three lines link the city's tech hubs at Whitefield and Electronic City with the central business district around MG Road and Vidhana Soudha.
Namma Metro fare is calculated on a distance-slab basis, with the Namma Metro Smart Card and National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) accepted for faster, discounted travel alongside single-journey tokens. Peak-hour trains on the Purple and Green Lines run every 8 minutes; the BMRCL helpline is 1800-425-12345 (toll-free). MetroYatra provides station-wise Namma Metro train timings, route map, fare calculator, and platform details for all 83 stations across the Purple, Green, and Yellow Lines.
