Blue Line Overview

Kolkata Metro Blue Line is India's original metro corridor, running 31.00 km between Dakshineswar and Kavi Subhash across 26 stations along a North-South alignment through the heart of the city.

From Dakshineswar, the Blue Line runs south through Baranagar, Noapara, and Dum Dum, into central Kolkata at Shyambazar, Girish Park, and Esplanade, then continues through Park Street, Maidan, and Kalighat before terminating at Kavi Subhash (New Garia). Esplanade is the interchange with the Green Line, and Kavi Subhash is the interchange with the Orange Line — the network's two main transfer points.

Peak-hour trains on the Blue Line run at frequent intervals, and the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) is accepted for smart-card and QR-code ticketing alongside single-journey tokens sold at station counters. As India's first metro line, the Blue Line has been in continuous service since 1984 and remains the busiest corridor on the network. Kolkata Metro Blue Line: Kavi Subhash Station Platform to Be Rebuilt After Cracks Found, July 2025

Kolkata Metro shut the Up-line platform at Kavi Subhash station, the Blue Line's southern terminus, on 28 July 2025 after cracks appeared in four columns supporting the platform shed. Metro Railway attributed the damage to uneven foundation settlement following heavy rainfall. After inspection, Metro Railway found the columns too weak to repair and decided to demolish and rebuild the affected platform, targeting completion within nine months.
