Orange Line Overview

Kolkata Metro Orange Line runs 9.90 km between Kavi Subhash and Beleghata across 9 stations, the first operational stretch of a planned longer corridor toward the airport.

From Kavi Subhash, the Orange Line runs through Satyajit Ray, Jyotirindra Nandi, and Kavi Sukanta, then through Hemanta Mukhopadhyay, VIP Bazar, and Ritwik Ghatak before terminating at Beleghata. Kavi Subhash is the Orange Line's interchange with the Blue Line, connecting this newer corridor to the rest of the network.

The Orange Line is currently partially operational, with further extensions planned to eventually reach Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, making it Kolkata's dedicated airport-bound corridor once complete. Fare follows the same distance-slab system as the rest of Kolkata Metro, with NCMC card and QR-code ticketing accepted at every station. Kolkata Metro Orange Line Extended to Beleghata: New 4.39 km Stretch Opens, August 2025

Kolkata Metro's Orange Line was extended to Beleghata on 22 August 2025, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 4.39 km Hemanta Mukhopadhyay-Beleghata stretch. Commercial services began on 25 August 2025, taking the line to eight operational stations in total. The extension connects Science City, hospitals, colleges and business areas along the route. Trains run from 8 am to 8:05 pm on weekdays with a 25-minute frequency.

Kolkata Metro Orange Line Begins Service: Kavi Subhash-Hemanta Mukhopadhyay Section Opens, March 2024

Kolkata Metro's Orange Line began operations on 6 March 2024, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Kavi Subhash-Hemanta Mukhopadhyay section. The 5.4 km stretch, built at a cost of around Rs 1,440 crore, included five stations: Kavi Subhash, Satyajit Ray, Jyotirindra Nandi, Kavi Sukanta and Hemanta Mukhopadhyay. The Orange Line is planned to eventually run about 30 km from Kavi Subhash to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport.
