Delhi Metro Red Line: DMRC Refurbishes 31 of 70 Ageing Trains on Red and Blue Lines by April 2026
Delhi Metro Red Line trains that have run for 19 to 24 years are being refurbished under a mid-life upgrade programme covering 70 trains shared with the Blue Line, DMRC confirmed in April 2026, with 31 trains already completed. The refurbishment repaints coach interiors and driver cabins, upgrades electrical panels, and fits IP-based Passenger Announcement and Passenger Information Systems, CCTV cameras, fire detection sensors and LCD-based dynamic route maps. DMRC is carrying out the upgrade in a phased manner so daily Red Line services are not disrupted, with the full programme due for completion by November 2027.
