Agra Metro Overview
Agra Metro is Uttar Pradesh's rapid transit system for the city of Agra, built and operated by the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC), running 6 operational Agra Metro stations on its Yellow Line since the line's first section opened on 6 March 2024. Agra Metro trains run daily from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM, in 3-coach sets, at a peak-hour frequency of roughly every 7 to 10 minutes.
The operational stretch of the Yellow Line covers Taj East Gate, Shaheed Captain Shubham Gupta, Fatehabad Road, Taj Mahal, Dr. Ambedkar Chowk, and Mankameshwar Mandir - a 5.20 km corridor built to carry tourists from the Taj Mahal gateway into the old city near Agra Fort. The remaining 8 stations of the full 14.27 km Yellow Line, running north to Sikandra, are under construction, along with Agra Metro's second corridor, the Blue Line, a roughly 15.4 km, 15-station route between Agra Cantt railway station and Kalindi Vihar. The Yellow Line and Blue Line are planned to meet at an interchange station once the Blue Line opens, giving Agra its first cross-line metro transfer. Agra Metro Corridor 2: UPMRC Awards Rs 123.96 Crore Mall Road Depot Contract to GHV India
UPMRC has awarded a Rs 123.96 crore contract to GHV (India) Private Limited to build the depot and workshop at Mall Road for Agra Metro Corridor 2.
The package covers civil work, the pre-engineered building, and the electrical and mechanical systems.
Corridor 2 will run between Agra Cantt and Kalindi Vihar. A depot is where trains are stabled, cleaned and maintained, so the contract is a step towards the corridor being able to run services rather than a change to the line itself.
Agra Metro Yellow Line ISBT Extension: System Trial Run Complete, Commercial Service from Taj East Gate to ISBT Expected July 2026
The Agra Metro Yellow Line completed a successful system trial run on the 6 km Mankameshwar–ISBT extension in May 2026. Signal trials began at 5 kmph and are set to advance through three high-speed test phases — 30–40 kmph, 40–70 kmph, and 70–90 kmph — before passenger services begin.
UPMRC targets commercial service from Taj East Gate to ISBT in July 2026, extending the operational Yellow Line from 5.2 km to approximately 11.2 km. The ISBT station will also function as the main depot for Yellow Line trains. Once open, passengers can travel directly from the Taj Mahal metro station to Agra's Inter-State Bus Terminal in a single metro journey.
Agra Metro Corridor 2: UP Cabinet Approves Free Land Transfer for Depot Connectivity in Sadar, May 2026
The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet approved free transfer of 550 square metres of Nazul land in Mauza Chak Avval, Sadar tehsil, Agra, to the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation on 18 May 2026, clearing the way for Agra Metro Corridor 2 station and viaduct construction.
The land, currently used as a park, was allotted at CM Yogi Adityanath's cabinet meeting after a request from UPMRC's managing director. The decision was made as a one-time exception and will not set a precedent. Corridor 2 is a 15.4 km Agra Cantt to Kalindi Vihar stretch.
Agra Metro Yellow Line: Mankameshwar–ISBT Up Line Track Completed, Trial Run Begins on 6 km Extension
The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) completed track laying on the up line between Mankameshwar and ISBT metro stations in December 2025, a critical milestone for the Yellow Line's 6 km extension. Third rail installation, signalling, and other technical work were simultaneously underway on the section.
With the up line ready, UPMRC initiated trial runs starting at 10 kmph before scaling to 90 kmph. The Mankameshwar–ISBT extension adds approximately 6 km to the operational Yellow Line corridor (Taj East Gate to Mankameshwar, 5.2 km operational since March 2024), taking the line toward its full 14.25 km span from Taj East Gate to Sikandra.
Agra Metro Phase 1 to Complete 3 Months Ahead of Schedule: Blue Line Viaduct Crosses National Highway at Sultanganj
The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) announced in September 2025 that Agra Metro Phase 1 is expected to be completed by January 2027, three months ahead of its original April 2027 schedule. Accelerated construction on both corridors has made the earlier finish possible.
The Blue Line (Corridor 2) spans 15.4 km from Agra Cantt to Kalindi Vihar with 15 elevated stations, including Sultanganj Crossing, Hariparvat Chauraha, Sanjay Place, and MG Road. A key milestone — the viaduct crossing the national highway at Sultanganj — was completed in September 2025. Together, Phase 1 covers 29.4 km across both corridors and will serve tourists and daily commuters across Agra.

UPMRC targeted metro operations to the RBS station by September 2025, extending the Yellow Line from its existing Mankameshwar terminus by approximately 3 km.
