Lucknow Metro is the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation's (UPMRC) rapid transit system for the state capital. Its Red Line runs 22.87 km with 21 operational Lucknow Metro stations between CCS Airport and Munshipulia, with trains running daily and a peak-hour frequency of a few minutes.
The line connects Chaudhary Charan Singh (CCS) International Airport in the south to Alambagh and Charbagh railway station, then continues through the government district at Hazratganj and Sachivalaya, past Lucknow University at Vishwavidyalaya, and on to the Indira Nagar residential belt, terminating at Munshipulia. A second corridor, the Blue Line (East-West, Charbagh to Vasant Kunj, 12 stations), had construction approved in August 2025 with a targeted completion of June 2027; Charbagh will become Lucknow Metro's first interchange once it opens.

UPMRC floated a Rs 1,877.89 crore civil construction tender for the underground section of Lucknow Metro's Phase 1B East-West Corridor, covering a 6.52 km stretch from Charbagh to Chowk. The tender covers seven underground stations. Bid submission closes July 27, with tenders opening July 28, 2026. The winning contractor will have 36 months to complete the work.
UPMRC awarded a Rs 384 crore civil contract (Rs 453 crore including taxes) to Gujarat-based Ranjit Buildcon Ltd for the elevated stretch of Lucknow Metro's Phase 1B East-West Corridor, the company emerging as the lowest bidder. On August 12, 2025, the Union Cabinet chaired by PM Narendra Modi approved Phase 1B of the Lucknow Metro Rail Project, an 11.165 km East-West Corridor connecting Charbagh to Vasant Kunj at a cost of Rs 5,801 crore. The corridor will have 12 stations: 7 underground between Charbagh and Chowk, and 5 elevated between Thakurganj and Vasant Kunj. It will serve old Lucknow areas including Aminabad, Chowk and King George's Medical University.
