Nagpur Metro Overview

Nagpur Metro, locally known as Majhi Metro, is Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation's (MahaMetro) rapid transit system for Nagpur. The network runs 37 Nagpur Metro stations across 2 colour-coded lines — the Aqua Line and Orange Line — spanning about 38.2 km, with trains running daily from 6:00 AM to 10:30 PM.

The Aqua Line (Prajapati Nagar–Lokmanya Nagar, 20 stations) runs east-west, while the Orange Line (Automotive Square–Khapri, 18 stations) runs north-south, meeting at Sitabuldi, the network's sole interchange, near Nagpur's central business district. Together the two lines connect Nagpur Railway Station and Sitabuldi in the city centre to the Dharampeth residential-commercial belt on the Aqua Line, and to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport via the Orange Line's Airport and New Airport stations.

Nagpur Metro fare is calculated on a distance-slab basis, with a rechargeable smart card accepted at all stations for faster, discounted travel over QR-code single-journey tickets. Nagpur Metro Fare Chart

Nagpur Metro charges fares by distance, with separate Token and Smart Card prices. Smart Card users pay less on every trip.

Fare is station-based, with a minimum fare of ₹10 and a maximum single-journey fare of ₹30.

MAHA Card users receive a 10% discount on every journey. Students receive a 30% concession.

Nagpur Metro Completes 7 Years of Operations, Crosses 12.4 Crore Passenger Rides in 2026

Nagpur Metro completed seven years of commercial operations on March 10, 2026, with Maha Metro data showing more than 12.4 crore passenger rides since services began on the Khapri-Sitabuldi stretch in 2019. Daily ridership has grown from around 2,500 passengers at launch to more than 1.20 lakh today, while daily trips rose from 12 to 356. Digital ticket adoption climbed from 3% to 55%, and over 1.3 lakh MahaCards have been issued so far.

Nagpur Metro Ridership Falls Short of 2026 DPR Target by Nearly 3 Lakh Daily Riders

Nagpur Metro's daily ridership stood at roughly 1 lakh passengers in January 2026, well short of the 4-lakh figure the project's Detailed Project Report, prepared in November 2013, had projected for the same year. The system's project cost has also risen, from an original Rs 8,680 crore approval to around Rs 9,279 crore after escalations. Officials attribute the ridership gap to commuters' continued reliance on personal vehicles.

Nagpur Metro Orange Line Completes First Span Launch on 6-KM Reach-2B Kanhan Stretch, 2025

Maha Metro launched the first span on Reach-2B of Nagpur Metro's Orange Line on August 21, 2025, using the launching girder Sahyadri to place a 25-metre span made of 9 pre-cast segments. Reach-2B is a 6.016-km elevated stretch from Lekha Nagar to Kanhan River with six planned stations: Cantonment, Kamptee Police Station, Kamptee Municipal Council, Dragon Palace, Golf Club and Kanhan River, part of the 12-km Orange Line extension under Phase 2.

Nagpur Metro Aqua Line: RVNL Wins Rs 307-Crore Contract for 10 New Stations in 2024

Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) was named the lowest bidder for civil package C-06 of Nagpur Metro's Aqua Line extension on October 16, 2024. The Rs 307.34-crore contract covers 19.4 km across two Aqua Line extensions: Reach 3A (Lokmanya Nagar to Hingna, 6.6 km, 7 stations) and Reach 4A (Prajapati Square to Transport Nagar, 5.5 km, 3 stations).
